So far, I've only read the 1st of the two stories. Colonel Carter is a old fashioned gentleman from the old South. He still belives in truth and honor, something that was surely lacking in the South after the war between the states when carpetbaggers overran the South with cheating and lies. The Colonel invites a devious Northerner and his young daughter to join him and his family for Christmas. The day brings something into his life that had been lacking in the Colonel's existance and opens the eyes of the businessman showing him there is much more to life than business and money. I love to read and this was exactly what I wanted. I loved these stories and will get more later.
good clean book for romantics and holliday story lovers... safe for young people and people of high moral standerds worth the price
Nice little story.
If you like books of old, than this is the book for you. I couldn't get into it but it's just not my style of read. It's very old wording that makes a difficult read for me personally. Didn't get past the first few pages. Snoozefest. LOL
After I've read the book, maybe it will become a 2 or 3 star review, but for now, this is the best I can do. I bought the book for its cover as pictured here as I have a small collection of similar books, but the book I received has a solid dark green cover, front and back. Still, I do love reading these old books, so ......
This is a fun-to-read story.
These two stories, one post civil war South and the other predating the war in the beginning and going beyond it, would be unacceptable in its vocabulary concerning black Americans. The stories themselves are well written. With a few changes, they could be appreciated for the solid period pieces of Literature they were.
