The book I am holding in my hands is explosive, no holds barred and is written with a powerful use of language. The words in this book will stir your emotions and ignite a sleeping soul. These words stay with you long after you have put the book down and cause you to pick it up again.

Lisa Arnold's stunning debut collection of poems is a profound reading experience. She writes about her own experiences as well as about social issues such as the abused, the ignored and mistreated. Moreover, she writes about what it means to be damaged and a survivor. With her poems, she tells stories with unflinching emotion and keen detail. Lisa Arnold is a breath of fresh air.

"Echoes of My Soul" has been nominated for a 2013 Pushcart Award by Casa de Snapdragon Publishing.

Arnold's debut collection of 128 poems spans three decades of work. Her writing is gritty and powerful. One of the most moving poems in the collection is about her beloved father Tyler. In an excerpt from the poem "The Call," Arnold uses stunning imagery, true emotion and honesty in this heart wrenching recollection about the day she learned of her father's death.

"I was numb, angry

yet deeply relieved.

I loved my father

but watching him suffer

day after day

ripped through the core of my

of my heart and soul.

I knew this day

was inevitable.

Still, I feel like

a helpless orphan"

Another compelling poem from the book is "Justice for Trayvon," which sheds light on racial prejudice and misplaced fear. Trayvon Martin, a teenager, was murdered last year in Florida on his way home from the store.

"cries of injustice

speak louder

than the reckless

actions of this

one lost man

a call for calm

has been made

to try to quiet

a brewing storm

within

engulfing winds

screams justice

for Trayvon"

Arnold also exposes the injustices and despair faced by the mothers of missing and exploited children. In the following excerpt from, "Have You Seen My Daughter,", Arnold depicts a mother's anguish and despair and undying faith and belief as she searches for her missing child.

Wait, don't walk away.

Please tell me you have

seen my child. I do

not remember

how many cities I have searched. I have looked

in so many places. It is

as if she has vanished.

How does a child disappear

without leaving a trace?

Arnold also excels in discovering beauty and meaning in the ordinary moments in life such as in the poem "In Rhythm - A Gogyohka."

In the end, Arnold does not leave us without hope. In "Looking Towards Tomorrow" she says:

"our dreams echo within

we all must heed their whisper and call

if we are ever to proceed in our lives

we all must hold faith and believe that

beyond the next horizon awaits our fate

looking towards tomorrow"

Lisa Arnold is the voice of a generation and her "Echoes of My Soul" is bound to become a literary classic.
